How to de-ice concrete in winter?

We recommend using fine sand and/or gravel to de-ice your concrete products in winter. Patio Drummond prohibits the use of de-icing salt to prevent the surface of concrete slabs, pavers, balconies, and steps from chipping or crumbling. Patio Drummond accepts no responsibility for damage caused by the use of de-icing salt on its products. De-icing salts are often sold without warnings about their harmful effects on concrete slabs, pavers, and balconies. Even when packaging states "safe for concrete," you must pay close attention to the warnings and application instructions, as these are often unrealistic. The APCHQ (Quebec Provincial Association of Home Builders) strongly recommends using sand or fine gravel instead. Given manufacturers' restrictions on the use of de-icing salts, it's much simpler to avoid sprinkling them on your concrete balconies to prevent their surface from chipping or crumbling. While sand and gravel do require more maintenance, these two products are undoubtedly a guarantee of longevity for the concrete of your slabs, pavers, and balconies.
