What's new?
106 smiles, one mission: Operation Santa Claus
There's only one week left until Christmas… And as we continue to tell you about the beautiful gestures that marked our year, it's the perfect time to tell you about an initiative that is particularly close to our hearts at Patio Drummond: Operation Santa Claus. Since 2022, Patio Drummond has been actively involved in Operation Santa Claus, an initiative that aims to help children from disadvantaged families experience the magic of Christmas, fulfill a small dream and receive gifts, like all other children during this very special time. This initiative is carried out in close collaboration with several organizations in our region that help families experiencing particular situations such as: Poverty, abandonment, or extreme vulnerability, particularly among adolescents and young adults. Among them: the CIUSSS, the DPJ, Rose des Vents, community organizations, and early childhood centers. The targeted children may live with their parents, be housed in a youth center, be waiting for a foster family, or be preparing to live alone in an apartment. They are identified by staff from these organizations because of the high risk of not receiving any gifts at Christmas. To make this operation a success, Patio invites its employees and acquaintances to become Santa Claus or Mrs. Claus for a child or siblings . Each participant receives a letter written or a drawing from a child and addressed to the real Santa Claus, in which the child shares what they would like to receive for Christmas. Participants then commit to buying one or more of the requested gifts, according to an average budget established each year. The gifts are carefully wrapped and accompanied by a card addressed to the child, signed "Santa Claus," to preserve all the magic of the moment. Every year, Santa Claus can count on the invaluable help of his head elf , Johanne Levasseur. She ensures the smooth running of Operation Santa Claus, from preparing and distributing letters to collecting and delivering gifts, which she personally carries out with each organization. Johanne fulfills this role with meticulous care, paying particular attention to the small details that make all the difference. Her eyes shining with happiness, she deeply believes in the magic of Christmas and hopes that every child will fully experience it the day they receive their gift. Upon receiving the children's letters, Johanne prepares their assignments . to the participants based on the affinities she knows among the Santas and Mrs. Clauses on her list . She takes the time to personalize the delivery of letters She uses vintage Patio envelopes to make the gesture even more special and magical. She includes clear and important gift-wrapping instructions, including the child's identification code, and reminds everyone of the importance of writing a letter to the child to make the moment even more special . She also ensures that every child receives a letter, without exception. When a family has several children and one receives a letter while another doesn't, Johanne makes sure to write one personally, so that child also feels unique and important. Thanks to his exceptional involvement and that of the 48 Santas and Mrs. Clauses, 106 children will see their Christmas dreams come true this year. Watch here the video where Johanne addresses a message to Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus before the distribution of gifts. Fresh doughnuts and much more... for a good cause In addition to individual gift collection, Patio also organizes a unifying and delicious event: Donut Day. Two Donut Days were held this year, on April 18th and November 20th . On these occasions, traditional donuts were prepared right here at Patio, using our own recipe. Team members could purchase them, and all funds raised were donated to Operation Santa Claus. A sale of items and clothing from the Patio store at low prices was also organized, and all profits were also donated to Operation Santa Claus. In total, over $1,000 was raised. And thanks to this fundraiser, several gifts were purchased. It's truly inspiring to see how dedicated our teams are to helping and making a real difference. Thank you to everyone who helped make Christmas shine during this 2025 edition of Operation Santa Claus. See you next year !
A new member joins the team: Ti-Cœur
Behind Ti-Cœur: an idea that came to life... The story of Ti-Cœur doesn't quite begin today, but it doesn't go back that far either. It has its roots at Patio Drummond, back when small concrete figures, such as the famous garden gnomes, were a familiar part of the Quebec landscape and part of our collections. After a break of several years, the desire to bring back this playful spirit was still very much alive, but in a new form. More responsible. More in tune with who we are becoming. It was in this spirit that we had the opportunity to collaborate with young industrial design students from Cégep du Vieux Montréal. Their creativity and fresh perspective allowed us to reinvent this symbol: no longer in concrete, but in recycled materials. It was a concrete way to give a second life to a material and turn it into something meaningful, in line with what our company believes in. At that point, the little gnome didn't have a name yet. However, it already had a personality, a mission, and even a little bit of our history. As our thinking evolved, so did it. It became the symbol of our raison d'être: bringing concrete to life. This is where Ti-Cœur's mission lies: to put humanity and life into what we create. To remind people that at Patio Drummond, concrete is not just a material; it is a way of building something solid, durable, and real, and of highlighting life itself. Ti-Cœur was eager to meet people, and during this holiday season, we want to make his wish come true. This year, we have decided to offer Ti-Cœur to our valued customers so they can install him in their garden or keep him in plain sight in their office! Because bringing concrete to life also means ensuring that our decisions and initiatives can “live” in our customers' environment, like a small, discreet reminder of what Patio Drummond aspires to become: a company where sustainability is a commitment, where innovations are born from collaboration, and where teams, people, and the environment are at the heart of everything we do. Ti-Cœur is introducing himself to you today, and you may see him a little more often. Every time you cross his path, we would like him to remind you that behind every slab, every block, and every project created at Patio, there are passionate people... Pationate 😉 Behind the scenes of Ti-Cœur production In early 2025, Alisson Lemaire discovered the REproduit collective, a group of industrial design students at Cégep de Montréal. Led by Yolaine Turcotte, this collective is dedicated to creating products from recycled materials. Several ideas were proposed, and the choice fell on the Ti-Cœur garden gnome and plant labels (also featuring the little gnome)! The production of Ti-Cœur began with sketches and drawings, which were then reproduced in 3D modeling clay, separated into two parts: front and back. Silicone was molded around these models to create the final molds. The production process used recycled polystyrene granules from the Cégep's workshops. To make a solid and durable Ti-Cœur, 2 kg of granules are needed. These granules are transformed into sheets, which are then thermoformed on the molds and heated to take on the perfect shape. Next comes cutting, gluing the two parts together, sanding, cleaning, and installing the stakes. Each step requires precision and skill, demonstrating the care that the students put into the project. Yasmine Lahrir guided us behind the scenes and explained how the machines work and the different stages involved in the process during our visit. Watch her video testimonial. We also met Eve Bilodeau and Alice Leclair, who told us about the creation of plant identifiers, small markers for plants made from recycled biodegradable plastic granules. Once again, it all started with the design and drawing of the product, then the parts were carefully manufactured from recycled materials, following all the necessary steps to obtain the final product. Find out more details here. We would like to thank the entire REproduit collective team for their creativity, commitment, and passion. Thanks to them, Ti-Cœur and the plant identifiers have come to life, and their energy inspires each of our projects. Ti-Cœur joins the Patio team and visits the factory The first step in fulfilling Ti-Cœur's mission—to bring concrete to life—was to discover the factory where concrete “comes to life” and get to know the Patio team. How did we do it? The best way was to make it part of a Christmas team activity. We asked the teams to create a model for Ti-Cœur. Yes, Ti-Cœur, our little recycled plastic gnome, had to be decorated or staged to highlight his personality and mission. Kits of elements were provided to get them started, but the teams could also pick up items from around the factory (even concrete was included!). A session was held on Tuesday, December 16, and 12 teams were assigned to start the project. During the week, the teams were able to continue improving their creations, which allowed drivers and colleagues who were absent during the day to participate when they came to the factory. On Friday morning, to make the challenge even more festive, a second phase was launched: a kit of Christmas decorations was given to the teams to refine and brighten up their models. After the Christmas dinner, the Teksam team, named after one of the machines at the Patio factory, was declared the winner. Congratulations to them, and congratulations to all the participants for their magnificent creations, which demonstrate real commitment and great creativity. The models will remain on display in the various departments throughout the year. The temporary Christmas decorations will be removed so that Ti-Cœur can remain with us all year round.
It's the holiday season… and the time for good deeds! And we're kicking it off with Movember…
The holiday season has a certain magic to it: it's a time when solidarity, generosity, and mutual support take center stage. To highlight this wonderful energy, we're showcasing some of the charitable initiatives undertaken during 2025, including Movember, which concluded this past Monday, December 1st, with a fundraising drive for a worthy cause. Movember: Growing solidarity, one moustache at a time Movember, or "blue November", is a charity event that originated in Australia in 2003. It aims to raise awareness among men about their health, particularly men's cancers. This year, Patio Drummond joined the movement, and throughout November, our team was invited to participate by growing their moustaches. To further support the movement, Patio Drummond chose to add a $20 donation for each participant. An auction… for a legendary moustache To increase the fundraising total, we also had a slightly crazy idea, but after all, going a little crazy for a good cause is allowed, isn't it? The plan was simple: auction off Stan's mustache. And anyone who knows Stan knows that's no small thing! His iconic mustache, which he's sported for years, is practically part of his identity. For him, the real challenge wasn't letting it grow... but sacrificing it. But for such a noble cause, he was ready and courageous, especially when he declared: "If the fundraiser reaches $500, the person who puts in the most money will have the privilege of cutting my moustache themselves!" December 1st: the day of the big shave To celebrate the end of Movember, we organized a small event. Razors, shaving cream, and a friendly atmosphere were all part of the fun. But most importantly, discussions took place about the movement and its importance. The team was there to encourage the participants and congratulate them on their commitment. That's where we discovered that 12 people had taken up the challenge of growing a mustache, and some had even volunteered to shave off mustaches they'd worn for a very long time. Seeing our team so enthusiastic and committed to supporting a good cause was truly inspiring! As for the auction for Stan's moustache, the pot reached $540, so it was about time! The moment everyone had been waiting for for a month, seeing Stan with his famous moustache, finally arrived: Stan agreed to sacrifice it. In total, $1,500 was raised and donated to Movember. The Patio team thus gave a wonderful demonstration that solidarity... grows quickly when everyone gets involved.
